The Best Exercises for Reducing Visceral Fat
Best exercise to reduce visceral fat is aerobic exercise.

If your only goal is to see a lower number on the scale, you may be overlooking an important part of the weight-loss process. One of the most important types of body fat is visceral fat — the fat that accumulates around internal organs such as the liver, pancreas, and intestines.
Unlike subcutaneous fat, which mainly affects the appearance of the body, visceral fat is strongly associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease, and chronic inflammation.
The good news is that visceral fat responds particularly well to exercise. But the question is: Which type of exercise is most effective?
Research shows that aerobic exercises such as brisk walking, running, cycling, and swimming can significantly reduce visceral fat. On the other hand, HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) can also be highly effective due to its ability to increase energy expenditure and elevate post-exercise metabolic activity.
However, there is one important consideration: if you focus exclusively on cardio without strengthening your muscles, you may lose some muscle mass along with body weight. This is why many fitness and health professionals recommend incorporating resistance training into your exercise routine.
More muscle mass supports metabolic health, improves blood sugar regulation, and helps reduce the risk of weight regain.
Interestingly, recent meta-analyses suggest that combining resistance training with aerobic exercise can lead to greater reductions in visceral fat compared with performing either type of exercise alone.
Of course, exercise alone is not a magic solution. Adequate sleep, a balanced diet, sufficient protein intake, and stress management all play important roles in reducing visceral fat. If your diet is poor or your calorie intake remains excessively high, even the best exercise program may not deliver the desired results.
So, what does an effective weekly exercise plan look like?
For most people, a practical and science-based approach may include:
3 resistance-training sessions per week
2–3 Zone 2 cardio sessions per week
1 HIIT session per week
This combination not only helps reduce visceral fat but also improves cardiovascular health, muscle function, and metabolic fitness.
